Martin Aguilera earned his BA in Art and the History of Art at Amherst College and was awarded a Fulbright research grant to Portugal in 2009. Aguilera began his professional career in art at Galeria Graça Brandão and Estate of Lygia Pape in Lisbon, and Cheim & Read in New York, where he was assistant to the owners. In 2015, he joined Mendes Wood DM in São Paulo as the Head of International Sales, where he has specifically worked to introduce Brazilian contemporary art to significant collections in Asia, Europe and United States. Recently, Aguilera relocated to New York to run the gallery’s new project space, which features highlights of its contemporary program and Brazilian masters such as Lygia Clark and Mira Schendel. In 2017, Mendes Wood DM will open its third space in Brussels.
