Natasha Degen is the Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York. An acclaimed academic and internationally recognized authority in her field, she brings two decades of experience at the forefront of art market scholarship, as well a long track record as a leader, writer, and educator. Her books include Merchants of Style: Art and Fashion After Warhol (Reaktion Books) and The Market (MIT Press), and her essays and criticism have appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Financial Times, Artforum, and frieze, among other publications. She also serves on the boards of the International Art Market Studies Association and the Journal for Art Market Studies. Before joining Sotheby’s Institute, Degen spent a decade as Professor and Chair of Art Market Studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY). She holds an AB from Princeton University and an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge.
