Paco Barragán

Dr. Paco Barragán is an art historian, cultural theorist, and curator. Between 2015 and 2017 he was the Head of Visual Arts of Matucana 100 in Santiago de Chile. He was artistic director and curator of CIRCA Puerto Rico and PhotoMiami fairs and also co-curated the International Biennale of Contemporary Art (IBCA) in Prague in 2005 and the Toronto Nuit Blanche in 2016. He was co-director of the seminar Global Art Fairs in March 2022 for the Sotheby’s Institute of Art (SIA), New York. Some of the books he has authored are The Art to Come (Subastas Siglo XXI, 2002), The Art Fair Age (CHARTA, 2008), and From Roman Feria to Global Art Fair, From Olympia Festival to Neo-liberal Biennial: On the ‘Biennialization’ of Art Fairs and the ‘Fairization’ of Biennials (Artpulse Editions, 2020). He is also co-editor of The Changing Meaning of Kitsch: From Rejection to Acceptance (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024).
