Ursula Krinzinger
Back to the 2025 programme

Ursula Krinzinger is the founder and co-owner of Galerie Krinzinger, founded in 1971 in Bregenz and relocated to Vienna in 1986. Since its beginnings, the gallery has been a vital platform for performance and body-related art, presenting over 650 exhibitions, including solo, group, and thematic shows. Early on, Krinzinger organized pioneering exhibitions, such as one of the first all-women artists’ shows in 1975, which featured Marina Abramović’s groundbreaking performance Thomas Lips. The program has consistently combined established figures with emerging voices, working with artists such as Abramović, Kader Attia, Chris Burden, Monica Bonvicini, Brigitte Kowanz, Hans Op de Beeck, Gavin Turk, Erik van Lieshout, and many others.

In 2002, she founded Krinzinger Projekte (now Krinzinger Schottenfeld), an experimental space that also hosts an international Artist-in-Residence program which currently includes destinations in Vienna, Sri Lanka, Hungary, and Croatia. Now international artists of the gallery’s program, such as Erik van Lieshout, Secundino Hernandez, Waqas Khan or Mithu Sen, have been part of the Residency program. In 2018, she launched the Krinzinger Lesehaus as a venue for readings and exhibitions.

Her contributions to the art world have been recognized internationally, most recently with the inaugural Arco Juana de Aizpuru Award at ARCO Madrid.
