What is the ideal gallery space? Is there an ideal gallery space? Is the white-cube model still relevant for commercial galleries today? How do architects conceive the relationship between space and function within a gallery project? This conversation between architect Simona Malvezzi and curator Moritz Küng aims at exploring the ideas behind the design and use of the gallery space, triggering a reflection on the relationship between art and architecture, and in particular related to gallery typologies.
The Berlin architects studio Kuehn Malvezzi specialises in the field of museum and exhibition architecture. They have designed new spaces for commercial galleries around Europe, which include Gio Marconi’s new venue (Milan, 2015), Delmes & Zander, Galerie Neugerriemschneider and Galerie Neu (in Berlin), and Galerie Meyer Kainer and Gelerie Senn (both in Vienna), among others.
